Burn shock resuscitation refers to the systematic administration of intravenous fluids during the first 24-48 hours after a major burn injury to prevent hypovolemic shock and maintain adequate organ perfusion. The most widely used protocol is based on the Parkland formula, which calculates initial fluid requirements using the patient's weight and total body surface area burned. The goal is to prevent the cardiovascular collapse that can occur due to massive fluid shifts and increased capillary permeability characteristic of burn injuries. Proper resuscitation is monitored through urine output, vital signs, and other hemodynamic parameters.
