A sophisticated burn treatment technique involving the laboratory cultivation of a patient's own skin cells to create sheets of epithelium for wound coverage. A small skin biopsy is taken from the patient and processed in tissue culture laboratories to grow large sheets of epithelial cells over several weeks. This technique is particularly valuable for patients with extensive burns where donor sites for traditional skin grafts are limited.
