Time period following lead implantation during which electrical parameters stabilize as tissue healing occurs around the electrode.

Full Definition

The lead maturation period represents the weeks to months following pacemaker or ICD lead implantation during which the electrical interface between the electrode and cardiac tissue evolves as healing and fibrotic tissue formation occur. During this period, pacing thresholds typically rise before stabilizing, and sensing parameters may fluctuate as the tissue-electrode interface matures. Medical editors must recognize that device programming often requires adjustment during this period, and normal parameter changes during maturation should be distinguished from pathological lead dysfunction.
