Displacement Encoding with Stimulated Echoes (DENSE) is an advanced cardiac MRI technique that directly measures tissue displacement and calculates myocardial strain. Unlike other strain imaging methods that track features, DENSE encodes displacement information directly into the phase of the MR signal using specialized radiofrequency pulses. This technique provides high spatial resolution strain measurements with excellent reproducibility and is considered the reference standard for cardiac strain assessment by MRI. DENSE can measure circumferential, radial, and longitudinal strain components, making it valuable for early detection of myocardial dysfunction and monitoring treatment response.
