Endothelial function testing encompasses various non-invasive methods to assess vascular health and early atherosclerotic disease. Common techniques include flow-mediated dilation (FMD) using ultrasound, peripheral arterial tonometry (PAT), and laser Doppler flowmetry. These tests evaluate the endothelium's ability to regulate vascular tone and blood flow in response to various stimuli. While not routinely used in clinical practice, endothelial function testing serves as an important research tool and may help identify cardiovascular risk in patients with normal traditional risk factors.
