Full Definition

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is a sophisticated non-invasive imaging modality that provides comprehensive assessment of cardiac structure, function, perfusion, and tissue characterization without ionizing radiation. CMR offers excellent soft tissue contrast and can detect myocardial scar, edema, and perfusion defects with high precision. In cardiovascular research, CMR serves as a gold standard for measuring ventricular volumes and function, and is increasingly used as a primary or secondary endpoint in clinical trials. The technique includes various sequences such as cine imaging, late gadolinium enhancement, T1 and T2 mapping, and stress perfusion imaging.
