Full Definition

Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP) are electrophysiological responses recorded from muscles following acoustic or galvanic stimulation of the vestibular system. This test evaluates the integrity of the otolith organs (saccule and utricle) and their neural pathways. VEMP testing includes cervical VEMP (cVEMP) recorded from neck muscles and ocular VEMP (oVEMP) recorded from extraocular muscles, providing valuable diagnostic information for vestibular disorders, superior semicircular canal dehiscence, and Ménière's disease.
