Field of view (FOV) refers to the size of the three-dimensional volumetric area captured during a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan. It is typically described in terms of diameter and height (e.g., 8 × 8 cm) and is classified as small (focused on a single tooth or region), medium (encompassing a single jaw), or large (capturing both jaws and adjacent structures). Selecting the appropriate FOV is a key aspect of CBCT justification and radiation dose optimisation; a larger FOV increases patient radiation exposure. Editors should present FOV dimensions in centimetres with the multiplication sign (×), not the letter 'x,' and should ensure the abbreviation FOV is defined at first use.
