Biochemical cure refers to the restoration of normal hormone or biomarker levels in patients with functional neuroendocrine tumors after successful treatment intervention. This endpoint is particularly important in endocrine oncology as it indicates elimination of excess hormone production that causes clinical symptoms. Common markers include chromogranin A, specific hormones like insulin or gastrin, and metabolites such as 5-HIAA. Biochemical cure often precedes or accompanies symptomatic improvement and serves as an objective measure of treatment efficacy in functional NETs.
