A gastrinoma is a neuroendocrine tumor that secretes excessive amounts of gastrin hormone, leading to increased gastric acid production and peptic ulcer disease. Most gastrinomas occur in the duodenum or pancreas as part of the 'gastrinoma triangle.' These tumors are associated with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and can occur sporadically or as part of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1 (MEN1) syndrome. Diagnosis involves measuring serum gastrin levels and secretin stimulation testing.
