The trabecular pattern is a distinctive histologic growth pattern observed in neuroendocrine tumors, characterized by tumor cells arranged in thin ribbons, cords, or trabeculae separated by fibrovascular stroma. This architectural pattern, along with solid/nested and glandular patterns, helps pathologists recognize neuroendocrine differentiation in tumors. The trabecular pattern is particularly common in pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors and can be seen alongside other growth patterns within the same tumor. Recognition of this pattern, combined with appropriate immunohistochemical staining, supports the diagnosis of neuroendocrine neoplasia and helps distinguish these tumors from other malignancies.
