Full Definition
Well-differentiated is a histologic classification for neuroendocrine tumors that retain organized structural features similar to normal neuroendocrine tissue, with characteristic organoid growth patterns and uniform nuclear morphology. These tumors correspond to WHO Grades 1 and 2, have better prognosis than poorly differentiated tumors, and typically grow more slowly. Well-differentiated NETs are often amenable to somatostatin analog therapy and have higher expression of somatostatin receptors compared to poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas.
