Canal transportation (also termed 'canal deviation') refers to the removal of dentine from the outer wall of a curved canal, causing the prepared shape to diverge from the natural anatomy. It is measured radiographically or in cross-sectional studies and is a key outcome variable in instrument comparison trials. Editors should be aware that 'transportation' in this context is a clinical noun, not a general-language word, and should not be replaced with 'transport' without clinical justification. The term differs from 'ledge' in that transportation involves deviation of the entire canal axis rather than a focal obstruction.
