Cervical Root Resorption
An external resorptive process originating at or near the cervical region of the root, typically below the epithelial attachment, often misdiagnosed as caries or internal resorption.

Cervical root resorption (also termed invasive cervical resorption) is initiated by clastic cells that invade the root surface at the cervical level, frequently following trauma, orthodontic treatment, bleaching, or periodontal surgery. Unlike internal resorption, the pulp is generally uninvolved in the early stages, and the resorptive defect is external in origin. The Heithersay classification (Classes I–IV) is widely used to stage severity. Editors must be alert to the distinction between this entity and internal root resorption, which originates within the pulp space; CBCT is the definitive imaging modality for differentiation, and this should be reflected accurately in manuscripts.
