Regenerative endodontics encompasses procedures aimed at replacing diseased or necrotic pulp tissue with viable biological tissue, restoring the functionality of the pulp-dentin complex. It is most commonly applied to immature permanent teeth with necrotic pulps, promoting continued root development (apexogenesis equivalent). The protocol typically involves disinfection, blood clot induction or scaffold placement, and coronal sealing. Editors must distinguish this from apexification, which aims only at apical closure rather than true tissue regeneration. The field is governed by evolving AAE position statements and clinical guidelines.
