The Siewert classification is a widely used anatomical system that categorizes adenocarcinomas of the gastroesophageal junction into three types based on the tumor's epicenter relative to the anatomical gastroesophageal junction. Type I tumors are located 1-5 cm above the junction (distal esophageal), Type II are within 1 cm above to 2 cm below (true junctional), and Type III are 2-5 cm below (subcardial gastric). This classification influences surgical approach and treatment strategy.
