Uterine artery Doppler is a specialized ultrasound technique that measures blood flow velocity and resistance in the uterine arteries, typically performed between 20-24 weeks of gestation. The study evaluates the pulsatility index (PI) and resistance index (RI) to assess placental vascular development. Abnormal uterine artery Doppler studies, characterized by elevated resistance indices and the presence of notching, are associated with increased risk of preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, and placental abruption. The examination is particularly valuable in high-risk pregnancies for early identification of uteroplacental insufficiency.
