Infiltrative growth pattern describes the characteristic behavior of certain brain tumors, particularly gliomas, where malignant cells invade and proliferate throughout normal brain parenchyma rather than forming a well-circumscribed mass. This pattern is most commonly seen in diffuse gliomas, where tumor cells migrate along white matter tracts, blood vessels, and other anatomical structures, making complete surgical resection extremely challenging. The infiltrative nature of these tumors explains why they often recur at the margins of resection cavities and why radiation therapy fields must extend beyond visible tumor boundaries. Understanding infiltrative growth patterns is crucial for treatment planning, as it influences surgical approach, radiation field design, and the likelihood of local recurrence.
