Full Definition

The endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA) is a minimally invasive neurosurgical technique that utilizes endoscopic visualization through the natural nasal corridors to access lesions of the skull base and sellar region. This approach eliminates the need for external skin incisions and brain retraction, reducing morbidity while providing excellent visualization of midline skull base structures. The technique is commonly used for pituitary adenomas, craniopharyngiomas, meningiomas, and chordomas. The procedure often requires collaboration between neurosurgeons and otolaryngologists, and may involve reconstruction of the skull base defect using various materials including fat grafts, fascia, or synthetic materials to prevent cerebrospinal fluid leaks.
