Common targets include the subthalamic nucleus for Parkinson's disease, the globus pallidus for dystonia, and the anterior limb of the internal capsule for obsessive-compulsive disorder. DBS systems consist of implanted leads, an extension wire, and a programmable pulse generator. In neurocritical care, DBS patients require special consideration for imaging protocols, medication interactions, and perioperative management. Clinical documentation must specify target location, stimulation parameters, and device-related precautions.
