Impaired synthesis, transport, or release of neuropeptides and neurohormones from neuroendocrine cells.

Full Definition

Neurosecretory dysfunction encompasses a spectrum of disorders characterized by abnormal production, processing, or secretion of neurohormones and neuropeptides. This can result from genetic defects in hormone synthesis, disrupted axonal transport, impaired exocytotic machinery, or damage to neuroendocrine neurons. The dysfunction may be selective for specific hormones or affect multiple neuroendocrine pathways simultaneously. Clinical manifestations depend on which neurosecretory systems are affected and may include disorders of growth, reproduction, water balance, or stress response.
