Perivascular hemosiderin refers to iron-containing pigment deposits that accumulate around cerebral blood vessels following microhemorrhages or chronic vascular injury. These golden-brown deposits represent breakdown products of hemoglobin and can be visualized with routine histological stains or confirmed with iron stains such as Prussian blue. Perivascular hemosiderin is commonly observed in conditions involving chronic hypertensive changes, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and traumatic brain injury. The distribution and extent of hemosiderin deposition can provide important clues about the underlying vascular pathology and the chronicity of bleeding events.
