Skip lesions are separate tumor deposits that occur within the same bone as the primary tumor but are discontinuous from the main mass. They represent intracortical or intramedullary metastases within the same anatomical bone and are considered a form of local tumor extension. Skip lesions significantly impact staging and treatment planning, as they may require more extensive resection or even amputation. They are most commonly associated with high-grade sarcomas, particularly osteosarcoma, and their presence generally indicates a poorer prognosis.
