Full Definition
Aplastic anemia is a serious blood disorder characterized by bone marrow failure resulting in decreased production of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. In pediatric patients, this condition can be inherited (such as Fanconi anemia) or acquired through viral infections, medications, or unknown causes. The condition leads to fatigue, increased infection risk, and bleeding problems, often requiring intensive treatment including immunosuppressive therapy or bone marrow transplantation.
