Desmopressin (DDAVP) is a synthetic analog of antidiuretic hormone that stimulates the release of factor VIII and von Willebrand factor from endothelial storage sites. It is used as first-line therapy for mild hemophilia A and most subtypes of von Willebrand disease, providing a non-blood product treatment option. The drug can be administered intravenously, subcutaneously, or intranasally, with peak effects occurring 30-60 minutes after administration. Response testing is recommended before using desmopressin for surgical procedures or significant bleeding episodes.
