MYCN amplification refers to the presence of multiple copies (typically >10) of the MYCN oncogene in tumor cells, most commonly seen in neuroblastoma. MYCN amplification occurs in approximately 20% of neuroblastomas and is associated with rapid tumor progression, poor response to therapy, and decreased survival rates. Testing for MYCN status is mandatory in neuroblastoma workup.
