A solid tumor arising from neural crest cells, most commonly occurring in infants and young children.
Full Definition
Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor in children, typically arising from the adrenal glands or sympathetic nervous system. It accounts for approximately 7% of childhood cancers and 15% of cancer deaths in children. The tumor can occur anywhere along the sympathetic chain, from the neck to the pelvis. Neuroblastoma staging uses the International Neuroblastoma Staging System (INSS) or International Neuroblastoma Risk Group (INRG) criteria, and prognosis varies dramatically based on age, stage, and molecular characteristics.
