These cells represent a form of neuronal differentiation and their presence may indicate a more favorable prognosis compared to undifferentiated neuroblastomas. Shimmer cells are part of the histologic grading system used to assess tumor differentiation, along with other features such as mitosis-karyorrhexis index and overall cellular morphology. Their identification requires experienced pediatric pathology review and contributes to the overall histologic classification that influences treatment planning.
