A diagnostic test for superior oblique palsy where the patient's head is tilted to each shoulder to assess cyclotorsional muscle function.

Full Definition

The Bielschowsky head tilt test is a clinical examination technique used to diagnose superior oblique muscle weakness or palsy. When the patient tilts their head toward the affected side, the hypertropia increases due to the inability of the weak superior oblique muscle to compensate for the secondary action of the superior rectus muscle. This test is particularly valuable in pediatric patients where verbal feedback about diplopia may be limited, as the examiner can observe objective changes in eye alignment.
