The Pavlik harness is a dynamic orthotic device designed to maintain the hips in flexion and abduction while allowing controlled movement. Named after Czech orthopedist Arnold Pavlik, it is the first-line treatment for developmental dysplasia of the hip in infants under 6 months of age. The harness consists of shoulder straps, a chest strap, and stirrups that hold the hips in an optimal position for acetabular development while preventing forceful hip extension and adduction.
