Power Doppler ultrasound is an advanced imaging modality that detects increased blood flow (hyperemia) within synovial tissue, indicating active inflammation. This non-invasive technique is particularly valuable in pediatric rheumatology for assessing joint inflammation, monitoring treatment response, and detecting subclinical synovitis. Power Doppler is more sensitive than clinical examination for detecting active inflammation and can guide treatment decisions. The technique is well-tolerated by children and provides real-time assessment of disease activity without radiation exposure.
