Full Definition
Sacroiliitis is inflammation of one or both sacroiliac joints, which connect the sacrum to the iliac bones of the pelvis. In pediatric rheumatology, sacroiliitis is a key feature of enthesitis-related arthritis and juvenile ankylosing spondylitis. It may be asymptomatic in children and is often detected through MRI rather than clinical examination. Bilateral sacroiliitis indicates more advanced axial involvement and potential progression to ankylosing spondylitis.
