Labor that progresses unusually quickly, with total duration from onset of regular contractions to complete delivery of less than three hours. Also known as precipitous delivery, this condition occurs in 2-3% of pregnancies and can pose risks to both mother and baby. Maternal complications may include cervical lacerations, perineal trauma, and increased bleeding risk. Fetal risks include intracranial hemorrhage and birth trauma from rapid passage through the birth canal. Multiparous women and those with previous rapid labors are at higher risk.
