Full Definition

Preimplantation genetic testing for structural rearrangements (PGT-SR) is a specialized form of genetic testing performed on embryo biopsies to identify those with normal or balanced chromosome arrangements in couples where one partner carries a structural chromosomal abnormality. This testing is particularly indicated for carriers of balanced translocations, inversions, or other structural rearrangements who are at risk of producing embryos with unbalanced chromosomes. PGT-SR uses advanced molecular techniques to detect the specific chromosomal imbalances associated with each unique rearrangement, allowing for the selection and transfer of genetically balanced embryos.
