A diagnostic procedure in which sterile saline is injected through the cervix into the uterine cavity while performing transvaginal ultrasound. The saline creates contrast that allows clear visualization of the endometrial lining, uterine shape, and any intrauterine abnormalities such as polyps, fibroids, or septae. This technique is commonly used in fertility evaluation to assess uterine factors that may impact implantation. The procedure is minimally invasive and can be performed in an outpatient setting.

Usage note: Distinguish from HSG which uses contrast dye and X-ray rather than saline and ultrasound.
