Full Definition
Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma represents approximately 5% of all renal cell carcinomas and arises from the intercalated cells of the collecting duct system. This subtype is characterized histologically by large cells with abundant, pale cytoplasm and prominent cell membranes. It generally has a more favorable prognosis compared to clear cell and papillary subtypes, with lower rates of metastasis and better overall survival rates.
