Collecting duct carcinoma, also known as Bellini duct carcinoma, is a rare and highly aggressive form of renal cell carcinoma representing less than 1% of all kidney cancers. These tumors arise from the epithelial cells lining the collecting ducts in the renal medulla and are characterized by infiltrative growth patterns and poor differentiation. Collecting duct carcinoma typically presents at advanced stages with metastatic disease and has a significantly worse prognosis compared to other renal cell carcinoma subtypes, with median survival often less than two years.
