A type of testicular cancer arising from germ cells, characterized by uniform cellular morphology and radiosensitivity.
Full Definition
Seminomatous germ cell tumors represent approximately 50% of all testicular cancers and are characterized by sheets of uniform cells with clear cytoplasm and distinct cell borders. These tumors typically occur in men aged 25-45 years and are highly curable with excellent response rates to radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Seminomas are classified as classical seminoma (most common) or spermatocytic seminoma (rare, occurring in older men). The tumor marker profile typically shows elevated LDH, while AFP remains normal.
