Full Definition
Ta lesions represent the earliest stage of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, where malignant urothelial cells are confined to the epithelial layer without penetrating the basement membrane or invading the underlying lamina propria. These superficial tumors are typically papillary in architecture and have the lowest risk of progression to muscle-invasive disease. Ta lesions are managed with transurethral resection and may require intravesical therapy depending on risk factors such as tumor size, multifocality, and recurrence patterns.
