Flow diversion is an innovative endovascular treatment strategy for intracranial aneurysms that utilizes high-porosity, fine-mesh tubular devices (flow diverters) to alter hemodynamic conditions within the aneurysm sac. These devices are deployed across the aneurysm neck within the parent vessel, creating flow stagnation within the aneurysm while maintaining normal flow in the parent artery and side branches. The altered flow dynamics promote thrombosis within the aneurysm and subsequent endothelialization across the device surface, effectively excluding the aneurysm from circulation. This technique is particularly valuable for treating large, wide-necked, fusiform, or recurrent aneurysms that are challenging to treat with conventional coiling or surgical clipping.
