Chromogranin B
A neuroendocrine secretory protein used as a biomarker for neuroendocrine tumors, alternative to chromogranin A.
Full Definition
Chromogranin B (CgB) is a member of the granin family of proteins found in neuroendocrine secretory vesicles. Like chromogranin A, it serves as a biomarker for neuroendocrine tumors and can be measured in serum or plasma. Chromogranin B may be particularly useful when chromogranin A levels are normal or when proton pump inhibitor therapy interferes with chromogranin A measurement. Elevated levels can indicate the presence of neuroendocrine tumors and may correlate with tumor burden. However, false positives can occur in kidney disease, inflammatory conditions, and other malignancies.
Usage
Usage note: Can be abbreviated as CgB; maintain consistency with chromogranin A abbreviation style in documents.
