Small, white, keratin-filled cysts commonly seen on newborn faces that resolve spontaneously.
Full Definition
Milia are tiny, pearlescent white or yellow papules measuring 1-2mm in diameter that appear on the face of approximately 50% of newborns. These benign cysts contain keratin and are formed by retention of keratin within the pilosebaceous unit. They most commonly occur on the nose, cheeks, and forehead, and typically disappear without treatment by 4-6 weeks of age.

Usage note: Always plural in form; singular 'milium' is rarely used in pediatric contexts.
